Here are some great free color picking tools that can help you decide on a palette that feels right for you, your brand and your ideal customers.

Whether you’re working on new branding or redecorating your office, there are some great free color picking tools that can help you decide on a palette that feels right for you, your brand and your ideal customers.

There are many free services out there that will help you play with color. Here are some of my favorite color pickers.

I’m going to start with a pretty photo I found on Unsplash and test it out on the different sites to see what kind of results I get!

The best color picking tool for Adobe users

Adobe Color : This website is addictive. Under the extract theme menu, you can add your own images and build a color palate. It will automatically pull the colors and give you a few mood variations on the scheme, like colorful, bright, muted.

If you use Adobe Creative Cloud, you can save the colors to your library and easily access them in any Adobe program. That feature makes this my favorite color tool, hands down. Not an Adobe user, no prob. Take a screenshot and write down your color codes.

Color picking with personality

Canva Color Picker: Canva’s color picker works pretty similarly. Upload your photo and you will get a palate with some color options. This tool is much simpler than Adobe’s. You can’t fine tune the colors or export them, but you can copy the hex codes by hovering over the colors. Take a screen grab and you’re set! I also like Canva’s premade color palates. There are some really nice options there for your projects, and I also like the cute names the generator gives colors.

Enneagram-Inspired Colors: Do you know your Enneagram personality type? (I’m a 2-3!) Tinted, a blog by Sherwin William, has created these color schemes to match your Enneagram results. I’m not sure if 2 and 3 speak to me, but I’m really liking 4 and 8!

Tools that feel like games

Color picking tools - Pantone Connect

Pantone Connect: Pantone is a great resource for color trends. If you’re a fan of using its color swatches, you might want to test out Pantone Connect. The app is free, but has some paid features. I had a lot of fun testing this out. You can easily move your color spots around to really customize your palate. You can upload a photo or take one with your phone. And then you can download or share your palate. To get more accurate colors, you can purchase a Pantone Color Match card, but it still works with out it. This will be fun to use while you’re out exploring.

Coolors: And finally, Coolers.co is a really fun site for picking colors, especially if you’d like to experiment or try something new. The color generator is almost like a video game or slot machine. It’s so fun. I could play with this all day. The site also has a gabillon palates to explore. And of course you can add your photo and extract colors. It gives you a lot of control over the tones and shades, and options to save your palates as well.
