When I started my Girl Scout meetings, the girls would come in and it was total chaos. My Daisies would run around (even though they were not supposed to) and it would be difficult to rein them back in to get our meetings started.

Then I figured out that they’d be more focused and ready to get going with our activities if I got them engaged as soon as they walked in. (I had no idea what I was doing as I wrote here.)

Here are some ideas to keep your Girl Scouts engaged as they arrive to your meeting.

Kaper Chart assignments

Do you have a kaper chart? You can have some of the early arrivers assist with your meeting set up. Build some early tasks like taking attendance, setting up supplies or paper passer into your chart.

Games and Songs

One of the co-leaders can lead a game that’s easy to join in – like Simon Says (maybe even Juliette Says). I also have some hula hoops and jump ropes that I’d bring to our outdoor meetings. Games are a great way to get their energy focused. You can also have girls sit in a circle and learn Girl Scout songs.

Coloring and Activities

Coloring pages and crayons are my best friends. I set them up before the meeting on a table and let girls color, draw and create as much as they want before we get started. A simple craft project or some Lego bricks would also be fun. You can ask parents to donate supplies for your Girl Scout meetings. Here are some coloring pages and printable activities from my Etsy shop.
