I recently attended a pretty awesome event: Clamour2018. It’s an exclusive summit for YouTube influencers held in California. I was part of Team Clamour helping with social media and graphic design.
ABOUT CLAMOUR
This was the second year for Clamour. The event was bigger, with more attendees, sponsors, activities and educational programming. The project required not just signs, but also physical designs, such as hotel keycards, lanyards, a gift box and name tags.
ATTACK OF THE 7-FOOT SIGN
We created several meter board signs for the schedule and for different rooms. It was hard to conceptualize 7-foot signs on a 17-inch laptop. I was bumping up the fonts from 100 to 200 to 400 points. It really seems ginormous. So I looked for some mockup files to help me imagine how these would look.
DESIGNS TO WEAR
Mock up templates also really helped in the design of the lanyard. The lanyard included sponsor branding and required approval from the sponsor team. I found this realistic template to help sell the design.
PROGRAMS I USED
To create these signs, I used Adobe Creative Cloud Programs: Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. For text heavy signs, such as the schedule, I created a background graphic in Illustrator and then imported the text in InDesign.
GEEKING OUT!
I was really excited about getting to see my signs. An attendee posted a picture on Instagram of the key cards before we got there and I had to show my whole family. It was even cooler to see my work in person. I may have hugged one of them. I learned so much about designing physical products and large-scale projects. I’ve worked in print for many years, and it’s very cool to see your work on news stands. Seeing it larger than life – that’s really awesome.
